Hi Yogis,
This is your last yoga assignment of the 2019-2020 school year!  It's bittersweet this year for sure.  I appreciate all of you who have come to a Zoom class and/or turned in work.  I've enjoyed staying in touch at least a little.   Please note that all work is DUE MONDAY, MAY 18.  This is when grades are due for seniors and it will give me time to grade everything and for you to make sure that what I have in Synergy is correct.  We only have one Zoom class next week.  If you haven't done one yet, please try it!

Please go pick up your yoga mats from V118 on your designatd day this week.  This is your chance to come and get your mat.  If mats are left after Friday, they will be donated.  It's important that  you wash it completely.  An easy way to do this is in the bathtub with mild soap, then hang it over the shower rod to dry.  I don't recommend drying outside because your mat will collect allergens and the heat doesn't do good things to yoga mats.

This email will give you your two writing assignments (1 for the practice reflection and 1 for the chakra notes).  I’ll also give you the link to the chakra notes on youtube and the links to the zoom yoga classes this week.  Both writing assignments are due by Monday, May 18.  Remember that you can do any or all of the yoga class you’d like.  If you can’t make the Zoom classes, find a practice on youtube or glo.com.  You can also do ALL the zoom classes.  Just because only one practice is required, doesn’t mean that’s all you should do.  MORE YOGA = MORE PEACE

Also, you can find all assignments and links on Synergy.  You can also go to http://tucsonhighyoga.blogspot.com  for the information.  We are trying to give you as many ways as possible to get the information you need to do the assignments.
Namaste,

Ms. Gutierrez

Hi Yogis,
Well, it's almost the end of the year.  You will have this assignment, and I'll send the last Chakra assignment on Wednesday.  Everything will be due by Wednesday, May 20 by noon!!!!!!  I greatly appreciate everyone who has come to a Zoom yoga class.  It's wonderful to see all of you even if you have your camera off!!  Your families are more than welcome to join us in the yoga.  I hope that you've also been enjoying the chakra videos that Ms. Donovan and I have been posting.  We are all being pushed out of our comfort zone through all of this, and I can tell you that I have learned a lot.  I will also tell you that I miss all of you, being at school and in our classroom and I even miss that darn bell going off!!!!  Remember, you can always participate even if you've opted out.  I'm also here to answer questions and just to check in and talk.  You can text or call me at 520-302-4255.

Let's Connect

Hello Tucson High Yogis,

Well, I haven't posted in a while, but now is a good time to begin again.  Normally, we would be gearing up for our fun chakra unit at school.  However, things have changed a bit with COVID-19.  We must be safe and stay away from public spaces to protect ourselves, our families and everyone else.  We will find ways to do yoga together and to learn about our chakras.  Ms. Donovan, Ms. Hoeflinger and I are in constant contact (apart) to try and bring our best to each of our students now and always.

Here are some things you can do right now to practice:

Do the practie that you memorized for our midterm...
Sit for 5 minutes and breathe....
Go onto youtube and find the sa ta na ma meditation and do it...
Go to glo.com and do one of their free practices...
Follow @darrenrhodesyoga on Instagram and do a free practice that he is offering...
Follow @yoga4youth on Insta and look for some live offerings from me :)...
Facetime a yoga buddy and do a practice together...
Teach sun salutations to your family...

Basically, any type of practice you do will make you feel better, and the great part is you won't have a teacher scolding you for not dressing out!!!!!  We have to laugh, right?

The truth is that we want to be in school with you all, but that's not the best thing right now.  So, we will do what yogis do and adapt, change, go with the flow and find the good in the situation.

Remember Yoga Sutra 1.2: yogas cittavritti nirodha  yoga calms the stirrings of the mind  You have practiced enough to know that's true.  So, now is the time to put it into practice my dear yogis.

See you soon,

Ms. Gutierrez

An Attitude of Gratitude

Well, Thanksgiving is very close, and in yoga we are learning about Aparigraha, non greed.  We have been discussing ways that we can practice this yama in our everyday lives.  Ask your student which of the 7 ways to practice this their group taught the whole class.

Students did a great job of teaching each other how to practice Aparigraha.  I have challenged all of my students, and myself, to let go of something.  That might be clothes or shoes that no longer fit or get worn.  It could be being more generous with their time and helping a younger sibling or family member with homework or chores.  It may be deleting pictures from their phone, or even letting go of a relationship that isn't good for them.  We are in this together!  Let's be generous!

Over the Thanksgiving long weekend, students will have a copy of the yoga practice that they are required to do for our final.  They should begin practicing this at home at least twice a week.  Finals are quickly approaching!!!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at Nancy.Gutierrez@tusd1.org
